Chris Lake at Audio Show Review
Chris Lake has dug himself a very nice niche in the electronic music world. Sidestepping the boundaries of popular dance house music and that of the more hipster-esque techno and down low beats, he’s been able to be a trendsetter in both genres. He first started producing edm at the ripe age of 14 and his breakout came with his remix of”Changes” as it broke through the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay chart in the year 2006. Then a little later “Carry Me Away” featuring the one and only Emma Hewitt dominated the charts. He followed those two early successes up with the Top 10 singles “Only One” and “If You Knew”, effectively breaking into the US music scene.
This past Saturday, Chris Lake stopped by San Francisco, the city by the bay to play at one of the hottest venues in town. Audio Discotech is a smaller loungey type music night club. It’s sophisticated yet manageable. Crazy but intimate. Definitely a venue you need to check out if your local or if you are going to be by the area sometime soon. The one aspect of this place that keeps the big name DJs and producers such as fehrplay, Umek, Felix da Housecat, coming back – in addition to getting the place at capacity with the crowd – is the amazing soundsystem. You can feel the reverb in your body and your blood pulsates to the bass. Yea it is that good.
Onto the actually music, Chris Lake spun a deep funked our groovy set with his classic style of instrumentation with a twist and spackling of modern dance house. It was a fun, fun set to a sold out energized crowd. Keep in mind it was also Valentines Day so there were a lot of couple and love was in the air. Some notable tracks included his massively huge and remixed single Helium as remixed by the techno king UMEK, which is in addition to Delirious (Boneless) alongside Steve Aoki and the Solo Dancing remixed by Lake. To check out other Chris Lake tracks head over to his Beatport page HERE. Lake played into the wee hours of the morning, which in SF nightlife scene is about 2am. I know..thanks NYC and everywhere else in the modern world for rubbing it in…
All in all it was a great Saturday night. Next time you have a chance make sure to go and party you face off at Audio. A terrific club with an even better sound system. Future dates are HERE.
