Just last week, Sylvan Esso, the duo of Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn, shared the truly innovative video/interactive website for the song “H.S.K.T.,” giving fans an opportunity to remix the song (one of MANY stand-outs off their breakthrough debut Sylvan Esso, out now on Partisan Records) and create something uniquely their own. “Since we were putting out a 12″ of remixes, we thought it’d be fun to try to share the feeling of pulling a song apart piece by piece,“ said the band. Today, Sylvan Esso shares a version of the song that displays how a remix can be transformative. Hercules & Love Affair has taken “H.S.K.T.” and turned it into a slinky, bass-driven dance floor banger they call the “Bleeps and Vox Mix,” which was premiered earlier today by KCRW. “Hercules and Love Affair has put out some of our favorite dance floor jams and we’re honored that he contributed to the single,” said Sanborn. “The mix is perfect for a 12″ – I almost wish it wasn’t of my band so I could spin it in a set without feeling sheepish.” This is just one of the amazing versions contained within Sylvan Esso’s H.S.T.K., a collection of extended mixes, acapellas, instrumentals, and remixes, which is out digitally today, with a vinyl release to follow on August 21st via Partisan Records. Today’s 12” release actually marks the one-year anniversary of the release of Sylvan Esso, so what better way to celebrate the first birthday of one of last year’s most heralded albums than with a dance party?

The above lyric video was born out of a photo shoot for the EP’s 12-inch jacket with North Carolina-based duo Sara Padgett and Adam Heathcott of Endless Endless. “What began as an exploration in still photography quickly evolved into an evening in a room only lit by the words of ‘H.S.K.T,’” said Padgett. “The energy that Nick and Amelia have generated all over the world, on their debut album and on increasingly big stages, was discovered, messed with, and simply captured. You can read along, or you can just dance.”
